Here, you’ll find all you need to know about how we hire for the Tech team at Agoda.

Agoda’s recruitment process 

To see which tech opportunities are available, visit our career website. The process will start after you submit your application on the website. Here’s how it goes:

  1. Application review: Your resume will be reviewed by one of our team members and hiring managers, and we will get back to you if there’s a fit. See our tech resume tips here.
  2. Screening call: If you are shortlisted, you will get contacted by our coordinator to schedule an interview and our recruiter for a screening call. They will also be your partners throughout the recruitment process.
  3. Additional tasks: You may be asked to complete an online assessment, such as a coding quiz. And depending on the role, sometimes we require candidates to complete a small project before their in-depth interviews. This is an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your skills and knowledge. Rest assured, we will provide you with all the resources and materials you need to research to prepare well for a presentation on the interview day.
  4. Interviews: If all goes well, you will have at least two rounds of technical interviews for us to understand your core competencies better.

If we both see a fit after the interviews, your hiring manager will make an offer. Congratulations!

Expect these in the interviews

Technical check: All your technical discussions will be conducted by our engineering team—people who would be your future colleagues—on the skills and expertise for the role you have applied for. E.g., for engineering roles, questions will be around coding, design, and architecture.

Cultural fit: At Agoda, people are at the center of everything we do, and we have a unique tech culture. Some of our questions would be to understand your views on it, including how you take ownership, work with data, experiment, and work in a dynamic environment.

In most cases, each interview will last around an hour. However, it could take up to two to three hours in a few instances (for which you’d be notified). Once done, we will get back to you within a few days after your interviews.

The key skills we look for in a candidate

Generally, you should have hands-on coding experience. And we expect you to be up-to-date with the current trends in software development, good problem-solving skills and analytical skills.

At Agoda, we believe that better results are achieved when each individual takes ownership of their goals, and we are looking for individuals who share those ideals. That includes having compassion towards the people you work with, caring about projects that are not only your own, and being passionate about the product you’re working on.

A few tips for you to stand out in the process

Know your language. Prepare everything from the fundamentals to the pitfalls of a programming language, and look at a problem from a new perspective.

Think out loud. Feel comfortable thinking out loud so that your thought process can be demonstrated.

Put your stack on top. Give the tangible impact of your role, show your personality, and be resilient.
