Role of an Engineering Manager
An engineering manager is someone who builds awesome teams. This involves forming the team by hiring, finding the right people with the right skill sets, ensuring everyone gets along, creating good feedback loops, coaching, mentoring, and even moving people to other teams.
Working at Agoda
At Agoda, you can expect to work with people from diverse backgrounds, both in cultures and technology stacks. The office environment is multicultural. As you walk around the office, you’ll hear people talking in English, Thai, French, Hebrew and more. For me, it’s one of the exciting things here that you may not experience somewhere else in this city.
The scale of projects varies depending on the area, but scale problems are always present. With over 1,000 engineers, aligning people on standards and practices and sharing information between teams is a real challenge that I find unique and very interesting.
Living in Southeast Asia
The role is also exciting because it’s based in Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand. The region offers amazing beaches as well as a modern city like Bangkok. The schools here are really good. International private schools here are on par with Singapore and Hong Kong. It’s a great place to raise a family and grow your career.
