We are looking for a motivated Software Engineering Intern to join a business-critical engineering team responsible for building and maintaining internal tools, automation platforms, and workflow systems used daily across Agoda.
This role focuses on solving real-world operational problems, improving engineering productivity, and automating business processes that directly impact how teams work at scale. While the team leverages modern technologies—including AI where it makes sense—the primary focus is on robust software engineering, system integration, and practical problem-solving within a production environment.
As an intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers on real deliverables that ship to internal users, not side projects or prototypes. What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and enhance internal tools and services used by engineers and business teams.
- Work on automation of real business workflows, such as document generation, data processing, and operational tooling.
- Contribute to backend and frontend components of internal systems.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on system design, implementation, and improvements.
- Write clean, maintainable, production-quality code.
- Work with databases and write SQL queries to support application functionality.
- Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Gain exposure to how large-scale systems operate in a real production environment.
Depending on the project, you may work with:
- Backend: Java, Scala, Kotlin, Python
- Frontend: JavaScript, React
- Databases: SQL and NO-SQL
- Tooling: Internal platforms, APIs, automation frameworks
- AI/Automation : Using AI-powered tools where they meaningfully improve workflows
- Strong understanding of core computer science fundamentals.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following:
- Java, Scala, Kotlin, Python, JavaScript
- Familiarity with databases and ability to write SQL queries.
- Ability to reason about real-world problems and translate them into software solutions.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Curiosity, ownership, and a desire to learn from real production systems.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts or tools is a plus, but not required.
- Hands-on experience working on real, impactful internal systems.
- Mentorship from experienced software engineers in a production environment.
- Exposure to how engineering supports real business operations at scale.
- A collaborative, pragmatic, and inclusive engineering culture.
- Opportunity to learn modern engineering practices used in large-scale systems.
