From Dubai to Bangkok: Huzaifa’s Life at Agoda
- Huzaifa Mukadam
- Senior Data Analyst, Supply Analytics
- Living in Bangkok since 2024
Before joining Agoda, I worked in early-stage B2B tech startups in Dubai, focusing on real estate technology and Human Resources Management System (HRMS) solutions. While I enjoyed the dynamic startup environment, I was looking for an opportunity to work within a more established analytics team. I wanted to accelerate my learning by collaborating with other data analytics experts, and living in Thailand was an added perk that made the decision even more appealing.
A Day in the Life of a Senior Data Analyst at Agoda
As a Data Analyst at Agoda, my day-to-day work is both challenging and rewarding. I spend time writing SQL for data transformation, analyzing data in Python, and turning my findings into compelling stories that help stakeholders make data-driven decisions.
Agoda’s highly data-driven culture ensures that my work has a direct impact on decision-making processes. The hybrid and remote work culture also provides the flexibility I need to stay productive and balanced.
Supply Analytics is a team of 40 analysts that leverage data to make sure that Agoda has the best prices and widest selection of Accommodation and Flights on our platform. My team’s projects include but are not limited to Market Intelligence, Business Analytics, KPI target setting and integrating AI into Operational workflows.
Why Agoda is an Exciting Workplace
Agoda offers the perfect balance of hybrid work, allowing me to work remotely and spend time with my wife and cat, while still collaborating effectively with my team. The company’s data-driven approach ensures that every decision is backed by insights, which makes my role as a Data Analyst both impactful and fulfilling.
Agoda also provides a clear career path for data analysts, helping us grow and develop within the organization. The supportive environment and emphasis on professional growth make it a unique and exciting place to work.
Growing at Agoda: [tailor based on content]
Career growth at Agoda is well-structured, with clear and well-defined requirements for advancing to the next role. One of the standout opportunities for professional development is participating in events like Agrowda. These sessions bring together experienced leaders and experts at Agoda to share insights on tackling career challenges. They provide a platform for networking, gaining inspiration, and exchanging knowledge, helping employees grow both professionally and personally.
Relocating to Bangkok with a Cat: A Smooth Transition
I relocated to Bangkok from Dubai with my partner and pet cat. The relocation process was seamless, thanks to Agoda’s extensive support. From visa arrangements to temporary accommodation, Agoda’s team was highly responsive and helpful throughout the process.
Bangkok is relatively cat-friendly, with veterinarians and groomers readily available and affordable. However, finding a pet-friendly apartment can be somewhat challenging. To make the search easier, you can seek recommendations from other pet parents at Agoda or explore online communities such as Reddit or Facebook, where expats and locals share advice and experiences on pet-friendly accommodations.
Living in Bangkok: Food, Culture, and Adventure
Living in Bangkok has been an incredible experience. I love the food, both local and international, and how easy it is to find cuisines from all around the world and at any price. I also love how multicultural the city is, offering exposure to various perspectives, and the proximity to amazing travel destinations within Thailand.
Outside of work, I enjoy learning new sports like rock climbing at Eagle Eye Climbing Gym, or wakeboarding at ESC Thai Wake Park. And like many others at Agoda I enjoy traveling and exploring new food.
Bangkok’s vibrant lifestyle and accessibility to outdoor activities make it an ideal place for adventure enthusiasts like me.
Building Community in Bangkok: Connections and Growth
Within two months of relocating, my partner and I had a good understanding of the city and quickly felt at home. My partner works remotely, and many of our friends outside of work are neighbors we’ve connected with over time.
At Agoda, I’ve built meaningful relationships with colleagues, many of whom have become friends and mentors. If you’re thinking about relocating to Bangkok for work, I would say go ahead and embrace the opportunity. While it’s a big decision, the long-term rewards are worth it.
Cost of Living in Bangkok: Affordable and Comfortable
The cost of living in Bangkok is lower compared to Dubai, making the transition much easier. Bangkok strikes a great balance between affordability and quality of life, allowing me to enjoy the city without overspending. For example, a meal at a mid-range restaurant in Dubai costs around THB 1,000, while in Bangkok, it’s approximately THB 600. Veterinary services are also more affordable in Bangkok, with an average visit costing around THB 200. This affordability enhances the overall quality of life and provides more flexibility for daily expenses.
Final Thoughts: Why Agoda is the Place to Be
Joining Agoda in Bangkok is an incredible opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment while experiencing a vibrant culture. The most rewarding part of my journey at Agoda has been making meaningful connections with people. If you’re considering joining Agoda, take the leap—it’s a decision you won’t regret.
